Our day trip to Satsop was full of fantasmical images and experiences!  We arrived to the Satsop Park on an autumn morning, and the nuclear towers were shrouded in mist.  After a few hours, the sun broke through and lightened up both towers creating an ethereal setting.  As we went into the towers, the vastness of the interiors made us feel small and left us totally mesmerized. Satsop.2 Satsop.4 Satsop.5 Satsop.3 According to our guide, construction of the towers began in 1977, but ended in 1983 due to a budget shortfall of $961 million needed to finish it.  The towers were 76% complete, and in the mid-1990’s, the site was ingeniously converted into a business development park. Satsop.bp satsop.bp.1 This adds to a supernatural setting for the Satsop Office Park and creates a magical quality to the land surrounding the office spaces.  It was as if we were on a movie set for Salt, or 24, or a 007 movie.  Satsop fired up our imaginations and we were ready to see anything from an action hero to a haunted ghost around each corner.  It was thrilling to experience!   • 496 feet tall, 440 feet across at the base, and 260 feet at the throat, 280 feet at the top
  • 3 feet thick at the extreme top and bottom
  • 15,920 cubic yards of concrete were used to construct the shell
  • 42 miles of large pipe and 35 miles of small pipe
  • 38,000 tons of reinforcing steel and 14,000 tons of structural steel
  • 562-ton reactor vessel measuring 50 feet high and 17 feet across, with steel walls more than 9″ thick

What is Satsop used for today?
