Kapama Private Game Reserve is truly a Garden of Eden with its vast 13,000 hectares of African wilderness and wide range of stylish accommodations across four sophisticated bush camps and lodges. There is truly something for everyone looking for the ultimate safari experience. During my stay at Kapama, everyone I met from around the globe (from honeymooners from Brazil to large families from India to couples from Australia) raved about Kapama’s authentic safari experience, luxurious accommodations, and warm hospitality.

Buffalo Watering Hole Kudu

Your safari experience starts the moment your guide greets you in a Land Rover at Eastgate Airport, a 10 minute drive from Kapama. During the quick ride from the airport with my gregarious guide John, I immediately experienced the sights, sounds and smells of the African bush. Over the next few days, John expertly guided me through this amazing wildlife sanctuary, that he knew like the back of his hand.  We encountered several of the Big Five as well as other exotic animals and birds. Exhilarating safari highlights included watching a herd of 30-40 elephants assemble at their favorite watering hole to cool off and play in the mud.  We also did off road tracking and trailed a lion hunting an impala through the bush. John’s intimate knowledge of the wildlife and terrain ensured the game drives provided fascinating encounters with the resident wildlife and stunning views of the bush.

Kapama’s four lodges offer a wide range of accommodations with architecture and décor inspired by nature.  You can combine various lodges during your stay to diversify your experience.  Kapama Karula lodge offers secluded, elegant villas and suites that are exquisitely decorated and set on the banks of the Klaserie River. Buffalo Camp suites are more old world African safari camp with suites on elevated platforms and surrounded by forest canopy. Southern Camp offers luxury thatched suites, to include suites for families. The 64 suite River Lodge is the largest camp with several accommodation options to include luxury suites, spa suites or stylish executive suites.  The food is amazing at all locations, with creative chefs that whip up local culinary delights along with a variety of international fresh cuisine prepared each day.

The spa includes a stunning lap pool that overlooks the bushveld with impala and other animals roaming around in stillness. The spa treatments have a special African twist with Manula treatments and oils.  I felt completely pampered and rejuvenated after a heavenly Calabash massage with African oils.
