Four Seasons Nevis

Four Seasons Nevis

We had no idea how to “lime”.  “Liming” is Nevis lingo for relaxing, and one can’t “lime” with stress.  Fabian Lim, Front Office Manager at Four Seasons Nevis, agrees, “Escape the hustle & bustle of a city to the hidden treasure of the Caribbean, Nevis island where the motto is – ‘Too blessed to be stressed’.”

Within a couple hours, we started to get in sync with the easy going rhythm on this quaint, less developed island.  Diego Stembert, Resort Manager, and Sven Wiedenhaupt, General Manager of the five-star Four Seasons Resort Nevis, greeted us, “Welcome to Nevis, an island of extraordinary beauty and friendliness, and charming Caribbean way of life.”

The island’s towns circle around the base of Nevis Peak where you find well-maintained plantation homes, fruit stands, tropical flowers, breadfruit trees, and ever present Nevisian smiles.  The local law prohibits buildings to go higher than the palm trees, so wherever you go there are splendid views.

The Four Seasons Resort Nevis

This resort adds to the island charm with its palm tree lined entrance, sugar mill ruins, gingerbread cottages, infinity pools, award-winning spa, beachfront cabanas, and spacious villas and residences surrounded by lush gardens and the 3 mile white sandy Pinney’s Beach.

When we entered our room, a welcome platter of local sweets awaited us – a jammy guava square, tamarind balls, sugar cake topped with coconut, a ginger fudge made from local recipes.  We inhaled the fresh Caribbean air from our balcony that overlooked tropical gardens leading to the sea.  The rooms are luxurious, comfortable, and have stunning views.  The Nevis Four Seasons resort has 196 villas, 3 pools, 4 restaurants, a pristine beach, and one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world.

It was time to “lime”.  Listed below are some “Liming 101” basics with programs and activities that helped us relax and unwind at the Four Seasons Resort Nevis.

Steps for a Liming good time!

Step 1 – Check into the Spa:  To ease your way into relaxing, Bernadette, the Spa Manager, checked us in for the “Island Hopper” and the “Nevisian Spirit” massages.

Nevisian:  As gentle as the Nevisian people, this Swedish massage and an island blend of mineral-rich volcanic sand and oils – coconut, papaya, pineapple, offer a massage and exfoliation at the same time.

Island Hopper:  If you can’t decide which treatment, this sampler of three techniques – Swedish, Deep Tissue and Reflexology, combined with tropical essential oils is the way to go.

This award-winning spa is a tropical sanctuary for the spirit, mind and body offering rejuvenating body treatments, massage therapies, facials, salon services and custom perfume blending, all with the personalized Four Seasons touch.  After our treatment, we lounged near the Spa’s waterfall and looked at the views of Nevis Peak and lush landscape.

Step 2 – Reserve a Luxury Spa Beach Cabana: The private beach cabanas are a perfect place to relax with privacy and the sandy beach and waters just feet from your lounge chair.  You can order food, drinks and dine in your cabana, play board games, or kick back in your chaise.

Step 3 – Unwind and Bask in the Sun!  Frolic in the Waves!  Play!  There are plenty of activities to help you to unwind.  Ned is the manager of the Resort’s Water Sports Playground where you can snorkel, dive, sail, windsurf, kayak, deep sea fish, catamaran!

Hike to the top of Nevis Peak or along other nature trails on the island.   Play tennis on one of the resort’s 10 courts – four red clay courts and six hard courts.  Golf at the island’s Robert Trent Jones Jr.–par-71 designed golf course is consistently ranked among the Caribbean’s very best, surrounded by the island’s dramatic scenery – located on the resort.

Step 4 – Get to Know the Locals and go on an Island Tour!  Visit historic Charlestown dating back to the 1600’s, stop by the public market, and see some of the island’s architectural sites and natural beauty.  What are the must-see sights in Nevis? What’s the entertainment scene like?

Vanessa Paris, Assistant Concierge Manager, offers tips and suggestions on what to see and do on her native island.  With her 22 yrs of experience at Four Seasons Nevis, these recommendations will create fantastic memories – click here to find out!

Step 5 – Make it a Vacation for the Family and Visit the Children’s Program:  For parents who want to check into a beach cabana, and children who want to play games, there is a wonderful Four Seasons program for children ages 3-9 yrs old, and those older than 9 yrs old too.

Barbara is the manager of this program and gave us a tour of the facility where there are lots of games, and programs like “Adopt a Turtle” where your children can play and learn, while you rest in your beach cabana with a favorite novel or try out the golf coure.  It’s not a surprise when parents come back to meet their children that the children don’t want to leave!

Step 6 – Make a Difference during your stay & Adopt a Turtle!

We adopted Caribelle, a sea turtle that was tagged at Lover’s Beach at Four Seasons Nevis.  Where is our Caribelle today? Click here to see where she’s been and where she is today. Such a fun and unique way to really remember a stay at Nevis Four Seasons!

Step 7 – Savor the Local Flavors & Exquisite Cuisine

Dive for your dinner!  This is a unique adventure at Four Seasons Nevis, where guests can join a Nevisian dive master and the Resort Chef to lasso their own lobster, and then bring the lobster back for a beach BBQ.  Click here to find the Spiny Caribbean Lobster Hash recipe

We dined at a few of the resort’s restaurants and savored the culinary delights.

Where to eat?

Mangos:  We lunched at this open-air and waterfront restaurant, located on the Northern part of the Resort.  Manager Mansfield brought us some West Indian dishes and mango mojitos.  We savored the local Caribbean spiny lobster fritters and BBQ ribs with Chef Jose mango chutney Sauce, and Chef Lowellen’s pepper sauce.  The views of St. Kitts and the Caribbean Sea make this an ideal place for a sunset.

Neve:   located next to the lobby, we had breakfast at Neve where there’s a variety of healthy options, and enjoyed the poached eggs in the Spiny Caribbean Lobster Stew, a Nevisian version of Eggs Benedict, with a glass of fresh honeydew juice.  Be sure to order the homemade banana bread from a local recipe.  And if you can sit on the veranda where you can enjoy the fresh air and magnificent views.

Cabana:  Chef Ayman Shawky presented us with delicious Mediterranean dishes including salad caprese, lobster risotto, seafood dishes, then a yummy apple crumble with a scoop of bailey’s ice cream on top!  This restaurant is near the beach and is a popular restaurant for lunch and dinner.  Or guests can sit down at the restaurant bar and order refreshing tropical drinks.

After our visit to Nevis and stay at Four Seasons Nevis, we can say we took time to “lime”.  We embrace the island’s motto “too blessed to be stressed” as a daily reminder of Nevis and why she smiles.

Before we left, we thanked Vanessa for the sweets we received when checking into our room, and she told us her mother, “Mama Lucille”, use to make these candies for a living.  We asked her what makes Nevis so special and she shares, “Many years ago Nevis was described as “sanctuary for the spirit.”  It took me a long time to fully understand what that meant. Our tour yesterday was very special, and after that spectacular sunset and magical rainbow, it jolted me back to this particular description of Nevis.  Many thanks to all our visitors from far, who travel here to this little rock in the Caribbean ocean, I hope they all found their own sanctuary for their spirit.”
